NBN Completes $750 Million Fixed Wireless Upgrade

NBN Co media release, 14 February 2025

NBN Co has finished a $750 million upgrade program that boosts broadband speeds and reliability for around 800,000 homes and businesses across regional and remote Australia.

  • Scope & Investment: $480 million funded by the Australian Government and $270 million from NBN Co.
  • Infrastructure: More than 2,300 towers upgraded, increasing network capacity four-fold.
  • New Plans: Two high-speed tiers—Fixed Wireless Home Fast (up to 200–250 Mbps) and Fixed Wireless Superfast (up to 400 Mbps)—are now available through participating providers.
  • Expanded Access: Over 120,000 premises that previously relied on satellite can now connect via Fixed Wireless, easing demand on the Sky Muster satellite network.
  • Performance Gains: Customers on existing plans, including Fixed Wireless Plus, can see speeds up to five times faster, even in busy periods.

NBN says the upgrade supports remote work, education, healthcare and business growth, while improving connectivity across 345,000 square kilometres of regional Australia. Customers can check availability at nbnco.com.au/check.
